The Dinner Party: Of Time and Place

Gabriella co-curated The Dinner Party: Of Time and Place with Colin Simpson, which was exhibited at The Williamson Art Gallery from 23rd June – 3rd September 2017.

The exhibition told a story of the creative community in Liverpool during the 1960s-80s period. Sam Walsh’s painting The Dinner Party (1980) acted as a central discussion point to explore this artistic scene, via five of its guests: the painters Arthur Ballard, Maurice Cockrill, Adrian Henri, Don McKinlay and Walsh himself.

The curatorial approach took an incredibly personal route, connecting stories and artworks gathered via the artist’s friends, family and acquaintances, as well as through local galleries such as The Walker Art Gallery and The Atkinson. The exhibition sought to reflect the close connections between the artists and their relationship with Liverpool.
